Using Sessions and Chat History

The Sessions section of the RightClaw dashboard lets you view and manage every conversation your AI agents have had. Whether you need to review a past interaction, check token usage, or terminate a stuck session, this is where you do it.

Active vs Historical Sessions

Sessions are divided into two categories:

  • Active sessions — Conversations currently in progress. The agent is either processing a message or waiting for the next one. Active sessions automatically expire after 30 minutes of inactivity, freeing up resources.
  • Historical sessions — Completed or expired conversations. These are retained for 30 days, allowing you to review past interactions, extract information, or audit agent behaviour.

Browsing Sessions

Navigate to Sessions from the sidebar to see a list of all sessions on your instance. Each session entry shows:

  • Agent name — Which agent handled the conversation.
  • Channel — The messaging platform the conversation took place on.
  • Message count — How many messages were exchanged.
  • Token usage — Total tokens consumed during the session.
  • Status — Active or historical.
  • Start time — When the session began.
  • Last activity — When the most recent message was sent or received.

Viewing a Full Transcript

Click on any session to see the complete message transcript. The transcript displays every message in order, including:

  • Who sent the message (user or agent).
  • The message content.
  • Timestamps for each message.
  • Token counts per message where available.

This is useful for reviewing complex interactions, debugging agent responses, or extracting information from past conversations.

Searching Sessions

Use the search bar at the top of the Sessions page to find sessions by keyword. Search matches against message content within session transcripts, so you can locate a specific conversation even if you do not remember which agent or channel it was on.

Killing or Terminating Active Sessions

If an agent is stuck in a loop, processing a request that is taking too long, or you simply want to stop a conversation, you can terminate it:

  1. Find the active session in the Sessions list.
  2. Click the kill or terminate button next to it.
  3. Confirm the action when prompted.

Terminating a session immediately stops the agent's current processing. The session is moved to historical status and its transcript is preserved for the 30-day retention period.

Token Usage and Cost Tracking

Each session displays its total token usage. For a broader view of costs across all sessions, use the Costs section, which breaks down token consumption by model and agent with time-period filtering (24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or all time).

Session Retention

Sessions are automatically cleaned up based on retention rules:

  • Active sessions expire after 30 minutes of no activity.
  • Historical sessions are retained for 30 days, then automatically purged.

If you need to preserve a session transcript beyond 30 days, copy the content before it expires or contact support@rightservers.com for extended retention options.
