Creating FTP Accounts in cPanel
To create an FTP account, log in to your client portal, go to Services → My Services, click your hosting service, and click Login to cPanel. In cPanel, go to the Files section and click on FTP Accounts.
- Click on Add FTP Account.
- Enter a username and password for your FTP account.
- Set the directory access for your FTP account.
Setting Directory Access for FTP Accounts
You can set the directory access for your FTP account to either /public_html (the root of your website) or a subdirectory. Make sure to choose the correct directory to avoid any issues with file uploads.
Connecting with an FTP Client
To connect to your FTP account, you'll need an FTP client such as FileZilla. Here are the steps:
- Open FileZilla and click on File > Site Manager.
- Click on New Site and enter the following details:

- Username: your FTP username
- Password: your FTP password

Passive Mode Settings
If you're having trouble connecting to your FTP account, try enabling passive mode in FileZilla:
- Go to Edit > Settings.
- In the FTP section, select Passive Mode.
Troubleshooting Common FTP Connection Issues
If you're experiencing issues with your FTP connection, check the following:
- Make sure your username and password are correct.
- Verify that your domain name or server IP is entered correctly.
- Check that port 21 is not blocked by your firewall.
- Try enabling passive mode.

Using SFTP (Recommended)
cPanel also supports SFTP (Secure FTP) on port 22, which encrypts both authentication and data transfer. We recommend using SFTP instead of plain FTP when possible. To use SFTP, set your FTP client's protocol to SFTP and use port 22 with the same FTP credentials.
