If you need to start fresh with your VPS or dedicated server, you can reinstall the operating system directly from the client portal using the AutoVM control panel's Change OS feature. This is a self-service process — no support ticket required.
Accessing the Change OS Feature
- Log in to the client portal.
- Go to Services → My Services and click on your VPS service.
- The service detail page shows an embedded control panel overview. Click the Go to Control Panel button.
- In the control panel, scroll to the Access section and select the Change OS tab.
Selecting an Operating System
The Change OS tab displays available OS templates organized by category (e.g. Windows Server, Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, AlmaLinux). Each category has a dropdown menu listing the available versions:
- Browse the categories and find the OS you want to install.
- Use the dropdown in each category to select a specific version.
- Click the Setup OS button to begin the installation.
Confirmation and Data Loss Warning
Before the installation begins, a confirmation modal will appear warning: "Through installation, you will lose permanently all of your data."
This operation will delete everything on the server — files, databases, configurations, and emails. Back up any data you want to keep before proceeding.
Click Clear and Install in the confirmation modal to proceed. The installation will take a few minutes to complete. Do not close the browser window during the process.
If You Need Help
If the Change OS tab is not available for your service, or if you encounter errors during the reinstall, open a support ticket from the client portal or email support@rightservers.com with your server details and the OS you want installed.
